The name International has been synonymous with Australian heavy industry for more than 100 years, since agricultural equipment manufacturer International Harvester Company first set up local operations in 1903.
The Dandenong International Harvester truck plant was commissioned in 1952 and has been in continuous operation ever since, producing a wide range of trucks for the Australian market including the legendary ACCO.
International Harvester became International Trucks in 1989 and, following its involvement with Iveco, became Iveco International Trucks in 1992. In 2001, the company was renamed Iveco Trucks Australia, broadening the range of trucks being built at the Dandenong plant now including models such as the Iveco Stralis and Powerstar.
A signature event occurred in early 2004 when International-branded trucks returned to the Dandenong production line in the form of the 9900i and 9200i Eagle prime movers. Previously, International models had been imported from International Truck and Engine Corporation in North America for local conversion to right-hand drive.
Classic, long-bonnet aerodynamic design, powerful drive trains and low tare weights give the International 9200i and 9900i Eagle prime movers a commanding presence in the heavy-duty market.
In 2007, the release of the 7600 completes the International range offering regional operators a truck specifically suited to single trailer prime mover and tipper and dog applications. The modern styled 7600 is imported in kit form and is then assembled and adapted at the Dandenong Plant to allow maximum suitability for the Australian market.
